How far in advance should I book? At least 2 to 3 days before is good. During busy season (June to August) the earlier the better.

Can I cancel or reschedule? Yes, just let us know as soon as possible on WhatsApp and we will figure it out together.

How do you keep it ethical? We never feed the animals. We keep a respectful distance. We follow all National Park rules. And we make sure every guest understands how to behave around wildlife before the trek starts.

When we encounter wildlife especially the orangutans, give them plenty of space and do not approach them. Take your pictures from a distance, don't feed them and follow instructions from our guides.

Why book with a local operator? When you book directly with a local operator, you are not just booking a trek. You are supporting the local community of Bukit Lawang. The more local people are involved in tourism, the more they have a reason to protect and preserve the forest. That is what sustainable tourism really means — and that is exactly how we operate.

We offer trekking throughout the year.

Sumatra has mostly tropical climate – hot and humid. Temperatures are around 28 C° all year round. In the jungle, they can drop to 20 C° in the night. Humidity ranges between 70 and 95%.

The rainy season here starts late September/beginning of October and lasts until the end of March or April with heavy rainfalls primarily in the night but as well during the day.

The dry season from April to September comes with sunny days and occasional precipitations.

Especially here in Bukit Lawang, right at the border of the jungle, rain is always a possibility. So be prepared for every eventuality: Bring sunscreen, a raincoat, light summer clothes and something warm for your nights in the jungle.

How fit do I need to be? For the 1 Day Trek — if you can walk for a few hours, you can do it. The longer treks need a bit more fitness but we always go at a pace that works for the group. Nobody gets left behind.

Is it suitable for kids? Yes — children 8 and above can join the 1 Day Trek. For overnight treks, kids should be at least 10. Send us a message if you are not sure which trek is right for your family.

What time do we start? 9am. We pick you up from your guesthouse.

Where do we meet? We come to you. The evening before your trek, one of our team will come to your guesthouse, introduce themselves, and explain everything about the next day. So when the morning comes, you already know us and you know what to expect.

How many people in the group? We keep groups small. We will let you know when you book.

Will we see orangutans? We go into Gunung Leuser National Park specifically to find them — and most of the time we do. But they are wild animals. We can not promise anything.

What we can promise is that our guides know this jungle well and will do everything they can to find them.

Is it safe? Yes. Our guides know every trail. We follow all National Park rules. Rafting only happens when conditions are safe.

What if it rains? We still go — it is a rainforest after all! If it is really heavy and dangerous, we will talk with you and find the best option. Bring a rain jacket just in case.

River Rafting

What kind of rafting? Traditional tube rafting on the Bohorok River. You sit on a tube and float back to the village. Fun, relaxing, and a great way to end the day.

Will my stuff get wet? No. We bring a waterproof plastic box for your phone, camera, and bag. Just hand it to your guide before you get on the tube.

Which airport? Fly into Kualanamu International Airport (KNO). Important — this airport is NOT in Medan city. It is about 40km outside. So you do not need to go into Medan at all. You can come straight to Bukit Lawang from the airport.

How do I get from the airport to Bukit Lawang? Two options:

Shared taxi — IDR 210,000 per person. Budget friendly but can take 4 to 6 hours because it waits for other passengers. We can arrange this for you — just message us before you

arrive.

Private car — IDR 700,000 for up to 4 people. IDR 1,200,000 for bigger groups. Leaves when you are ready, no waiting.

We can also pick you up from any hotel near the airport or in Medan city — same price.

Your driver will wait at the arrival gate with your name on a sign.

Note: If you arrive in the evening, book your transport at least 3 hours in advance — shared taxis can be hard to find late.

What about getting from the drop off to my guesthouse? Most guesthouses in Bukit Lawang are along the river and not accessible by car. You might need to walk up to 1km with your bags. Don’t worry — we will help carry your bags to your guesthouse by foot or

motorbike. Your guesthouse can also arrange this.
