Our Vision

At Meet the Orangutans, we envision a world where everyone has access to the beauty of nature.

Our local guides have many years of experience in the jungle. They are keen on sharing their knowledge about the flora and fauna in the tropical rainforest with you and providing you with an eco-friendly, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

They all share a great passion for nature and the protection and conservation of the environment are close to their hearts.
We strive to teach our guests how to comport themselves with the orangutans and other wildlife in the jungle in view of protecting one of the last remaining rainforests on earth.

ANDRI

has been working as a professional guide in Gunung Leuser National Park for over five years. He has a passion for wildlife and huge concern for its preservation. He wishes to bring a better understanding about the importance of the rainforest’s ecosystem to tourists and locals alike.

JAMES

James is our assistant guide and porter. Sharp eyes on the trail, he spots wildlife quietly and makes sure you get the best view without disturbing the animals. Always ready to lend a hand when you need one, whether it is on a steep trail or crossing a river. At camp, James is the one who keeps everything running smoothly.

Imbon

Imbon was born and raised in Bukit Lawang. The jungle and the river were his playground growing up, long before he became a guide. That connection to the forest runs deep, and when he shares it with you on the trail, it feels different. Not like a tour. More like someone showing you a place they truly love.

SOLEH

Soleh is our jungle chef and has been for 13 years. Cooking in the jungle, whether it is a short trek or a long expedition, comes naturally to him. Over a wood fire, with fresh ingredients, he makes it look easy. Traditional Sumatran food, always cooked fresh. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, nut allergy, just let us know when you book and Soleh will take care of it.
