If you want more than just a day in the jungle this is your experience. Two days, one night, sleeping beside the river in the jungle.
Day 1
We pick you up from your guesthouse at 9am. Before entering the jungle, the trail takes you through local community gardens with durian trees and rubber plantations; a side of Bukit Lawang that most visitors never see.
From there, we continue a 6-hour trek through Gunung Leuser National Park. Goal is the same as the one day trek not just to see orangutans but to meet them. Up close, on their terms, in their jungle. Along the way, long-tailed macaques, Thomas leaf monkeys, pig-tailed macaques and jungle birds await us and, if you are lucky, hornbills and gibbons too.
You arrive at the camp in the afternoon. The tent with mattress, pillow, blanket and mosquito net is simple but comfortable. The toilet is basic and simple — just what you need, nothing more. The camp is set right beside a small river which is not big enough to swim in, but perfect for a wash and a cool down after a long day of trekking.
After that, we serve you fresh Sumatran coffee and tea while you wait for the evening to come in. Then traditional Sumatran dinner is freshly cooked right there at camp. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, nut allergy — just let us know when you book and we will take care of it.
As night falls, the jungle does its thing: frogs and cicadas start calling. And if you are lucky, fireflies begin to appear in the trees around camp.
Day 2
Breakfast at 8am starts with banana pancakes or a warm sandwich, cooked freshly at camp. We leave again at 9am for around 3 more hours of trekking through the jungle.
The trail leads you to a bigger, wide and clean river - perfect for a proper swim. Just take your time before hopping on a tube and floating back to the village.
The evening before your trek, one of our team will come to your guesthouse to introduce ourselves, explain what to expect, and answer any questions. So on the morning of the trek, you already know us.
